LOOKBOOK | Summer fresh with linen

Image
Along with floral and tropical prints , linen is yet another summer staple that we've all come to love. Or at least I do. I mean, I haven't always liked linen. In fact I hated anything linen before, especially shirts. But over time I've come to terms with all the unavoidable wrinkles and creases that come with wearing a linen piece. I've also come to appreciate how light and breathable the fabric is. Because of its association with summer, oftentimes linen shirts are regarded as resort or beachwear . But they're just as perfect an item you'd wear in the city and in my case here, the office. The shirt's peach color here goes well with the brown pants and of course, the pink ombre boots.

LOOKBOOK | Prints and stripes make it from office to the beach

Image
Cliché as it is, tropical prints are so summer that they're meant for the beach. In fact it's a shame that it's only now that I've worn this shirt to one. Buttoned shirts have always been city wear for me, like this time when I paired this tropical print shirt with white pants while strolling around The Henry Hotel Manila and felt like a haciendero . I even wore it to the office with light blue seersucker-like pants for an all-blue ensemble . From afar it looks just white or a very light blue but up close you'll see the fine stripes, which makes it safe to pair with a loud printed top. Come to think of it, save for the shoes, it's the exact same pairing I'm sporting on the beach right here. But office or beach, what's the difference?

TRAVEL | The Farmhouse in Aloguinsan

Image
Part of the so-called "full tour" of the Bojo River cruise , The Farmhouse in Aloguinsan is a small-scale organic farm where we were served our snacks. Its couple of hundred square-meter area is mainly devoted to growing vegetables, a few livestock, and some fish.

LOOKBOOK | The case of the blues

Image
When going on trips to the beach or any place that involves swimming, I often reach for tank tops and t-shirts to go with my swim shorts. On our recent trip to Cebu , however, I made a conscious effort to also try buttoned shirts. So here I was sporting a long-sleeved shirt--sleeves rolled up--while enjoying the Kawasan Falls in Badian, Cebu . It's a blue on blue swimwear ensemble : light-hued top and dark-colored shorts, plain vs printed. And oh, even the sandals I was wearing were blue! Hmm...the dry bag, too.

TRAVEL | Bojo river cruise in Aloguinsan, Cebu

Even with overcast skies, the Bojo River's beautiful hues shine through. Ever since Kwittiegirl showed me photos of Aloguinsan from her trip there nearly three years ago, I've always wanted to visit this sleepy little town in Southern Cebu. Time may have passed but I'm glad that I was finally able to earlier this month. We stayed at Lunhaw Farm Resort and planned on taking it easy while checking out what this town had to offer. The Bojo River Cruise , of course, was on top of our list.

LOOKBOOK | Stripes and anchors

Wearing prints with a different set of prints can be tricky, which is why it's best to pair them with something in a plain and solid color. But then what's left to enjoy of summer when the majority of beach and swimwear come in prints of all colors and patterns? For one, you can choose a bright-colored top with printed swim shorts so both pieces stand out without clashing. Go for neon if you may. Conversely, if your top is quite busy, tone it down with something solid but in a color that still stands out, like I did before with an Aztec print tank top and plain green swim shorts .

TRAVEL | Lunhaw Farm Resort in Aloguinsan, Cebu

The entrance to the resort's lobby and common area. The napping dog is Oniol (or Onyol; I don't know how it's spelled). Aloguinsan may not ring a bell to most people but this sleepy town in Southern Cebu is slowly but steadily building up its reputation as a prime eco-tourism site, thanks to its popular  Bojo River Cruise . We spent a good two nights there and stayed at this lovely place called Lunhaw Farm Resort . Here's a rundown of our experience there.

LOOKBOOK | Peach and flowers

Image
They may not be groundbreaking to Miranda Priestly but there's nothing that says spring/summer like florals. So on a recent trip where I spent an afternoon in the church complex of Boljoon in Southern Cebu, I donned an old floral short-sleeved shirt .

LOOKBOOK | Rolled-up cargo

Image
Cargo pants and cargo shorts are often frowned upon in the fashion world. I don't exactly know why but I'm guessing it's the usually lousy fit that fashion overlords find unappealing. Or it could be that because it has so many pockets, the wearer is wont on stuffing all sorts of stuff into them, resulting in unsightly bulges everywhere. But I can't fault cargo lovers out there because these clothing pieces are so utilitarian and comfy. I, for one, wear cargo pants and shorts from time to time. It's been probably years, though, since I last wore one, then I found these cargo shorts on sale at Uniqlo and thought, hey, why not?
